The Rev. Frank M. Ringwelski, pastor of St. John's Catholic Church in Akeley, Minn., and a former Christian Brother in Minneapolis, died of a heart attack Saturday at his home.
Ringwelski graduated from De La Salle in 1936 and joined the Christian Brothers about a year later.
After getting a bachelor's degree in math at St. Mary's College in Winona and a master's degree in math at the University of Minnesota, he taught at about 12 high schools and colleges over the next 34 years.
He was a teacher at De La Salle from 1955-59, 1961-62 and 1965-69 and at St. Mary's College from 1959-61. He also taught in mission schools in Nicaragua and Guatemala, and in 1976 directed the Diocese of Crookston's migrant assistance program.
Ringwelski was ordained in July 1975 and served Minnesota parishes in Thief River Falls, Moorhead, Ada, Bemidji, Oslo and Akeley. While at Akeley, where he had been the past six years, Ringwelski also had mission churches in Nevis and La Porte and was a counselor in the Lakeside Center alcoholic treatment program at Ah-Gwah-Ching Nursing Home near Walker.
He is survived by a brother, Clarence of Brooklyn Center, and a sister, Margaret Burley of Cordova Tenn.
